Where has it gone wrong?
Why has it gone wrong?
How can we make things right?
Three questions you ask yourself after another terrible display, this time a limp loss away at the Bonnyrigg Sports Club. Some players are clearly not up to it, and the recurring theme of the last few disappointing weeks is poor defending. So defense is clearly an area of concern. There was a lack of composure and self-assurance in the defensive third.
The 1st half began with a similar theme as in the previous few weeks, slow out of the blocks, no enthusiasm, no energy. We paid for this slow start conceding 2 very soft goals thanks to some poor defending, and before you knew it we were 2-0 down. What was an uphill task before kick-off became a mountain to climb, as it would take something special to grab a draw from that start. There was a lifeline around 10 minutes before halftime when we were a awarded a penalty, which was converted by Harris Gaitatzis, the remaining moments of the 1st half were dominated by Olympic and we could have had an equaliser but it was not to be. So we went to the break 2-1 down but upbeat that we were well and truly in the match.
The 2nd half began pretty much the same as the 1st half, some amateurish defending in the first 10 minutes saw Bonnyrigg open the 2nd half with a flurry of corners, and the pressure was too much as we conceded yet another scrappy goal. The 2 goal deficit was restored and once again we had it all to do to get anything out of the match. We had one golden opportunity to peg one back but a great save by the Bonnyrigg Goalkeeper kept the score at 3-1, from that point on we were pretty much going through the motions and at the final whistle we had recorded yet another loss.
So it is now 1 win in the last 6 league matches L-W-L-D-L-L. We are an imitation of the team that dominated the first 8 rounds of the season. The coaches have one hell of a task to solve these problems and get this group of players to find their early season form. In saying that the players are the ones out on the field, they have to figure out a way to re-discover their form. Otherwise it will be another wasted season for the club, after it looked so promising. Speaking to a few Olympic people at the match it is clear many of the supporters are also dumbfounded on how the team has found itself in its current position, given how good we looked earlier in the season. It needs to be sorted out ASAP.
Next match is this Wednesday, a Waratah Cup Semi-Final against Blacktown City at Belmore Sports Ground - 7pm.

Stop playing Tsattalios and Angel on the same side. Move Will to the Right-Wing.

Exactly, we aren't utilising them properly by having them on the same side. Also, supporters have been saying for months now that the squad has no depth. We rely on the same 12-14 players every single week, which is considerably difficult when we have FFA Cup, Waratah Cup, AND championship games to contend with. The club has failed yet again to address this issue by failing to sign enough players. It's why Olympic fell apart towards the end of the season last year and looks like it will unravel the team this year as well.
DeleteWorst decision ever to let Tomaras leave
DeleteDepth is an issue, and i had heard that we had signed Hagi Gligor a week and a half ago, not by the club, but people who are ''in the know'', but that has turned to nothing.
ReplyDeleteNext it was Tolgay Ozbey, who by all accounts we have signed, but needs 3-4 weeks for his contract to expire at his old club so he can be cleared to play (allegedly)
But depth has little to do with the way we are actually playing, guys who we've come to expect top notch performances by, are struggling.
At least the rumours of Gligor and Ozbey are more realistic than the usual rubbish people "in the know" tell us, like when we were supposed to sign Emile Heskey, or Ionnis Okkas, or Angelos Charisteas. As for the players who we've come to expect to perform well who aren't, they can't be expected to play twice a week, for a full 90 minutes, and to play exceptionally every well. There needs to be squad rotation, and there is none because we just don't have enough players to rotate with.
DeleteTired my ass, like every other team hasnt had similar schedules. The players need to have a long hard look at themselves, otherwise come Wednseday night we'll be out of the Waratah Cup as well.
ReplyDeleteThe 20s have some good players, Andrew, Madonis, Trajkovski and a few others who can easily play first grade, time to give them a go
They ARE tired, and other teams AREN'T in the same position. Very few teams are still in the FA Cup and Waratah Cup. Very few teams have such a threadbare team as Olympic too.
